Certain measuring instruments have to have approval of the type, in accordance with the Regulation on legal measuring instruments that are mandatory subjected to verification i.e. type approval of measuring instrument.
The Bureau of Metrology issues certificates on approval of measuring instrument type, after an examination is conducted, which confirms that the measuring instrument type is in compliance with prescribed metrological requirements, and that the measuring instrument is fit for use as well.
When a measuring instrument is verified for the first time, it has to have a valid approval of the type that shows metrological features, construction and its functioning principles, inscriptions and labels, together with the method of its verification. The most common period to which measuring instruments type is approved is 10 years, but it can be lasting as well.
Approval for the types are commonly issued for weighing instruments, taximeters, water meters, devices for measuring liquid fuels, ethylometers, speedometers for vehicles in traffic (radars)...
Requests can be submitted every working day from 8 am until 2 pm.
